As seasons changes in Japan, so do the styles on the street. Japanese fashion is famous for moving from trend to trend very quickly, a reputation that’s well-earned. Not everyone has the luxury of spending their days people-watching in Harajuku, so we do our best to keep you up to date on what’s cool on the streets of Japan’s youth fashion capital. The warm weather, numerous festivals and events, and Japanese school holidays make summer the peak season for Tokyo street fashion trends. Summers in Tokyo are full of great things – long days and sunny skies, yukata and fireworks, beach trips and music festivals, barbecues and carefree time spent with friends. The heat and humidity aren’t always pleasant, but that’s why air conditioning was invented!

Marine style – whites, navy and ‘border’ motifs – is wildly popular in Japan from Spring until Autumn. At its height last summer, it was hard to spot any youngsters dressed in any other style.
Due to the usui features of many Japanese (so I’m told!), it tends to suit them well. As the months get warmer, the average Japanese man will develop a nice tan that warms the white and navy and allows the border contrasts to sit comfortably. It’s a style that girls like and can be dressed up or down to fit most social occasions. But it is a style that favours slender builds and darker complexion.
Being caucasian and having koi features, it was a little harder for your humble author to pull off. Japanese summer fashion for us foreigners is a different beast. Here are a few things I’ve found helpful for getting it to work.

Almost all of the boys like to wear T-shirt, and so do Japanese boys. Moreover in this summer, T-shirt is the best option to give a relaxed feeling. Japanese boys sometimes like to wear t-shirt with soft colors like pastel, pink, and the basic white. Pink color in the t-shirt will give a nice and different fresh stylish touch. So you can get one to complete your T-shit collection in your wardrobe.
Summer Fashion in Japan
I have class at 9am every morning, and this is my typical routine: wake up at 8am, grab a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, slap on some make up, and check Facebook while eating breakfast. I leave my apartment at 8.45am, just as the Kandai-mae train pulls into the station, unloading about half of the student population. I join the mob of students, and we all snake our way up the hill to Kansai University.
